Górnik Zabrze

Gornik Zabrze ( complete: Gornik Zabrze club Sportowy ) is an association founded on December 14, 1948 Polish football club based in the Upper Silesian town of Zabrze ( German Hindenburg OS, until 1915 Zabrze ). The club colors are white - blue-red. Gornik Zabrze result is from a fusion of RKS Concordia, KS Pogon, RKS Skra and KS Zjednoczenie. Since time immemorial, the club is a symbol of the miners of the Polish region of Upper Silesia.

History

Gornik Zabrze is ( with Ruch Chorzów together) Polish record champion with 14 titles in the Cup and 6 Cup victories. In the 60s dominated Gornik in Polish football and secured in 10 years equal to 6 league titles and three cup wins. In 1970 Gornik Zabrze in the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup, in which there had to be fought but Manchester City 1-2. Gornik thus is the only Polish team at all, which has reached a European final. In the 1980s there were again four more league titles for Gornik. Four times in succession ended the season as the team's first in the table and made Gornik 's record champion.

After the club was still present mid 90s internationally, it constantly then went downhill due to financial problems. The club was looking for years in vain for a new sponsor and had repeatedly worried about the license. The financial plight had an impact on the sporting situation, in the years 2005, 2006 and 2007, you could only save just before the descent. In the most difficult times, the fans were the ones who saved the club. When relegation battle in 2006 and 2007 made ​​the pilgrimage up to 20,000 fans at the Roosevelta 81, although the stadium officially holds only 17,000 spectators. Gornik Zabrze could produce the highest attendances despite poor performance. Even successful teams fighting for the title this time, those audiences could not produce.

In 2007, sponsors were finally able to be found again. On July 10, Gornik Zabrze was by Allianz Polska SA adopted, whereby the financial future of the club has been saved. The motto of the acquisition is " Alliance - We support the best, on the way to the top". The target is the 15th championship has wanted in 2012, when the euro will take place in 2012 in Poland.

Even if it looked at first with new financial resources for good Gornik, the club still rose 30 May 2009 in a home game against Polonia Warszawa before more than 22,000 fans of the Ekstraklasa in the first league from. The team played a fatal season and sealed the second relegation after 31 years in the Ekstraklasa.

After only one year in the first league, however, Gornik was able to celebrate the re-emergence in the Ekstraklasa, although it due to lack of success of the team after only 6 months gave the meantime a new coaching change. Ryszard Komornicki was replaced by Adam Nawałka, who transferred from GKS Katowice to Gornik. During the second half also an old friend came back to the Roosevelta 81 Tomasz Waldoch took over the post of sporting director.

After renewed financial problems and a partial takeover of the club by the city of Zabrze club in 2011 was announced that the construction of the new stadium can finally begin. In September 2011, the first three stands was begun with the construction. Because of the construction, the stadium capacity was limited to 3000 seats. The first phase should be completed in early 2013 and include 24,000 seats on three stands and a parking garage under the grandstands.
