2001–02 French Division 1

The Division 1 2001 /02 was the 64th season of the French Division 1 began the season on 27 July 2001 with the opening match between Bordeaux and FC Nantes (final score: 2-0). As a newly promoted FC Sochaux, FC Lorient Montpellier HSC came from the Ligue 2 this. The season as champion finished Olympique Lyon and so was the successor of FC Nantes. Qualifying for the UEFA Champions League managed Lyon, RC Lens, and AJ Auxerre ( qualification). For the UEFA Cup to Paris SG and Girondins Bordeaux and FC Lorient qualified on the two cup competitions. In the UEFA Intertoto Cup the following year played Lille, ES Troyes AC and FC Sochaux. Relegated to the Ligue 2 had the FC Metz and FC Lorient.
