Salvatore Sirigu at Paris Saint Germain

Salvatore Sirigu ( born January 12, 1987 in Nuoro ) is an Italian football goalkeeper who is under contract with the French first division side Paris Saint- Germain since 2011.

Career

Association

Salvatore Sirigu started his professional career in 2006 with the U.S. Palermo. There, he could not initially prevail and was awarded for the 2007/ 08 to third division side U.S. Cremonese. He could win a regular place in the club and placed himself at end of season with the team on the second rank of Girone A in Serie C1. In the play- off games for the promotion to the second highest league the team met in the semi-finals at the U.S. Foggia, against which they could enforce nearly in two games. The final matches against AS Cittadella were still lost after a 1-0 win in the first leg, the second leg Sirigu received three goals and defeated the team with 1:3.

After the rise was missed in the B series, the keeper returned to Palermo and joined shortly thereafter again on loan to the club. This time it was awarded for the 2008/ 09 season to the second division side AC Ancona. He made his debut 30 August 2008 in a 2-2 away draw in Treviso FBC for Ancona. In total, he completed 15 league games and 24 goals received. As the 19th of series B, the club met in two relegation matches to avoid relegation to Rimini Calcio. After a 1-1 draw in the first leg Ancona won the return match in Rimini 1-0 and thus secured the league. In the two games Sirigu was not used, the Brazilian goalkeeper Angelo Esmael da Costa Júnior took over his duties in goal for the Biancorossi.

For 2009/ 10, the goalkeeper returned finally to his old club back to Palermo. Within a short time he won a position in the goal of the Sicilians, and prevailed against its older competitor Francesco Benussi and Giacomo Brichetto.

In summer 2011, he joined the French first division side Paris Saint- Germain. On March 16, 2014 Sirigu completed his 100th league game for Paris SG.

National

Sirigu played in various Italian junior selections and was named for the U-21 European Football Championships 2009 in the squad of the Italian U- 21 team. In the tournament, he was not used because it Andrea Consigli was favored. After he became a regular at Palermo during the 2009/10 season, he was called up for the friendly international match on 3 March 2010 against Cameroon for the first time for the Squadra Azzurra. In the game, he remained on the bench, Federico Marchetti guarded the gate over the full duration.

On 10 August 2010 Sirigu debuted in the Italian senior team, as he stood the entire game in goal in the friendly match against Ivory Coast.
