Fjærlandsfjorden

The Fjærlandsfjord photographed from Riksvei 5 on the east side

The Fjærlandsfjord is a 27 km long tributary on the north side of the Sognefjord in Norway. The largest part of the fjord is located in the municipality of Sogndal; But it also shares in the municipalities of Balestrand and Leikanger that lie above all in the province of Sogn og Fjordane. It is named after the small town of Sogndal.

On the west side there are more side fjords: the Esefjord in Balestrand and the Sværa and the Vetlefjord at Farnes. From the northern end can be reached on the National Highway 5 after five kilometers of the Briksdalsbreen, a tributary glacier of the Jostedalsbreen. At the southern end of the estuary, on the Sognefjord, runs the compound of the imperial roads 55 and 13, a ferry between Dragsvik and Hella. The fjord are otherwise largely without roads.
