History

First antenna

The original medium wave transmitter in Jürgensby district was on the road today at the station and was taken in 1928 by the German Post in operation. Originally, the station Flensburg used a quadruple T antenna of 25 meters in length, which was attached to two 60 -meter-high wooden towers, which were located at a distance of 80 meters. In 1934, the transmission power of 500 watts was increased to 3000 watts. The two wooden towers of T antenna were dismantled in August 1935 after a short time before replacement had been created.

Wooden Eiffel Tower

On 15 March 1935, the construction of a 90 meter high wooden tower began with an anti-fading half-wave Eindrahtantenne, which took up broadcasting on April 9, 1935. The transmitter Flensburg was the end of the Second World War, one of the few plants that were functional yet, and through him the news of the German surrender was born on 8 May 1945 by Karl Doenitz common. The station was founded in 1948 by Deutsche Post for the North West German Radio.

The station was nicknamed the Eiffel Tower.

Pencil

In 1957, the wooden tower was replaced by a 216 meter high guyed radio mast, which, because it was also used to spread a radio program in the medium-wave band, was isolated from soil. Due to its significant presence he dominated a portion of the eastern city silhouette that could be viewed from the harbor. He was nicknamed the " pencil ". Since it came again and again by falling chunks of ice from transmission tower in a risk to residents and because the facilities were no longer given to the extension at this location, the transmitter mast Jürgensby was dismantled in 1990. When the transmitter wrude danals dismantled, he is likely to already have been found by the incorporations of the seventies quite near the geographical center of Flensburg,

New Channel

1988 on the present site located to the east of the district Engelsby located new transmitter mast was erected, which is a grounded structure with a long wire antenna for medium wave transmitter in contrast to the old mast. Since the new transmission yet visually has a strong resemblance to the old channel, it is sometimes also called pencil.
