Floc de Gascogne

Floc de Gascogne is a French aperitif, a specialty of the designated historically as Gascony south-west France ( the Sud -Ouest ) which belongs to the group of liqueur wines.

It is made from a blend of unfermented grape juice and Armagnac, which according to the rules of the Weinbauverband CIVSO must come from the same winery, has an alcohol content of 16 to 18 vol - % on and is white or rosé. Since 27 November 1990, the wine has the status of a Appellation d' Origine ( AOC short ).

There are two types Floc de Gascogne:

  • The white Floc is made from Colombard, Ugni Blanc and / or Gros Manseng grapes; the proportion of these main varieties must be greater than 70%. In addition, the varieties Baroque, Folle Blanche and Petit Manseng are allowed. It is fruity grape varieties that provide a light and fruity aperitif.
  • For the rose-colored Floc, however, the red, aromatic and heavy Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot grapes are used to accompany traditional in the region consumed as an appetizer of foie gras ( goose liver ).

After the blend of young wines with Armagnac Floc de Gascogne ten months is stored in the wine cellar and may be sold only after review and approval by the Winegrowers' Association as Appellation d'Origine Floc de Gascogne.

Its fruitiness and its fresh taste, come in a cool place ( 6-8 ° C ), but not served on ice in the first year after bottling advantage.
