Florin Gheorghiu

Florin Gheorghiu ( born April 6, 1944 in Bucharest ) is a Romanian chess master.

Life

Even as a 13 -year-old Gheorghiu won the Romanian Youth Championship, three years later, in 1960, he won the national championship of adults. A total of nine times (1960, 1962, 1964-1967, 1973, 1977 and 1984 ) brought him the victory in the national championship and he was up in the early 1990s, the leading player in Romania. In 1963 he was in Banja Vrnjačka the first Romanian Junior World Champion. FIDE awarded him the same year the title of International Master in 1965 the title of Grand Master.

Gheorghiu represented his country 1962-1990 fourteen times in chess Olympiads, of which ten times on the first board.

In his home country he was very popular: A 1978 book published Secretele marilor Maestri by Constantin Ştefaniu puts him on a par with Robert James Fischer and Anatoli Karpov Jewgenjewitsch. A collection of his best games Gheorghiu published in 1980 under the title Particle Alese.

Gheorghiu also applies in addition to Ulf Andersson and Mihai Suba as a pioneer and expert in the hedgehog position.
