Association

The association was founded in 1921 and 1922, member of FIFA. In 1992, the LFF was re-join after the country became independent again in 1991.

National

History

Latvia has participated in the 2004 European Football Championship in Portugal for the first time in a major international tournament. In the first round they played against the Czech Republic (1:2), Germany (0-0 ) and the Netherlands (0:3). With 1:5 goals and a point, the team was eliminated as a group bottom of Group D.

The so far only goal in an international tournament Māris Verpakovskis scored in the first group game against the Czech Republic. The first and only point came for the Latvians against Germany.

Club competitions

Latvian Championship

Shortly after independence Latvia, the first Latvian champion in 1922 with the SV Kaiserwald Riga chosen. During the Soviet occupation from 1944 Latvian champions were determined only at the regional level within the Soviet Union. after re- independence in 1991 won Skonto Riga thirteen times the title in a row. Currently playing ten teams for the championship. Two Highest Game class is the first league with twelve teams.

Latvian Cup competitions

Since 1937, the winner of the domestic cup competition Latvijas kauss is played.

Women's Soccer

The national women wore from their first game in 1993.
