The slopes Forsythia blooms from March to April, the fruits ripen from July to September.

Occurrence

The natural range is located in the temperate zone in the western Chinese province of Anhui, Hebei, Henan, Hubei, Shaanxi, Shandong, Shanxi and Sichuan. It grows in steppes and dry forests in 300-2200 meters on moderately dry to moderately moist, slightly acidic to alkaline, sandy- loamy to loamy, fertile soil in full sun to light shade locations. The species is thermophilic and usually frost hardy.

System

The slopes Forsythia ( Forsythia suspensa ) is a species in the genus Forsythia ( Forsythia ) in the family Oleaceae ( Oleaceae ). There it is the tribe assigned Forsythieae. Carl Peter Thunberg has first described the species in 1784 as Syringa suspensa ( basionym ), and assigned it to the genus of lilac (Syringa ). Vahl presented the type 1804 in the genus forsythia. The genus name Forsythia is reminiscent of the English botanist William Forsyth, the epithet suspensa comes from the Latin, means " suspended" and refers to the hanging branches.

Some authors distinguish three varieties:

  • Forsythia suspensa var suspensa
  • Forsythia suspensa var fortunei
  • Forsythia suspensa var sieboldii

These are not usually recognized.

Use

The slopes Forsythia is often planted as an ornamental because of the decorative flowers. The fruits are used in China to treat fever and symptoms of poisoning.

We distinguish between different cultivars, including:

  • ' Decipiens ' with mostly solitary, deep yellow and long-styled flowers.
