Founders Peaks

The Founders peaks are a group of steep peaks and mountain ridges in the northwest of the Heritage Range, the southern part of the Antarctic Ellsworthgebirges. They are located just east of the road range Founders Escarpment, about the eternal ice from the western highlands in the valleys of the Heritage Range flows. North of the Founders peak flows of Minnesota Glacier, east of the Gowan Glacier.

In the western part of the Founders, the peaks over 7 km long ridge Smith Ridge Frazier Ridge extends in a north-south direction with the 1840 m high peak Pardue and about 2 kilometers to the west of it. Between the 1,720 m high peak Pipe and the 1,810 m high peak in the center of Matney Founders peak and the Frazier Ridge Webster Glacier flows north to Minnesota Glacier .. To the east of the Founders peaks, the Reuther nunataks extend a ca. 7.5 km long series of nunataks, is located in the northern part of the Welcome Nunatak. South of it rises the 1910 m high summit of Windy Peak.

The Founders peaks were mapped by the United States Geological Survey as part of the compilation of Ellsworthgebirges in the years 1961-66 by site surveys and aerial photographs of the United States Navy. The U.S. Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names gave the Founders Peaks (German founder summit ) the name of the Heritage Range has how many geographical objects a reference to the cultural heritage of the United States of America.
