François Gayot

François Gayot SMM ( born July 17, 1927 in Saint -Louis -du-Nord, Haiti, † December 16, 2010 in Rome) was a Roman Catholic Archbishop of Cap- Haïtien.

Life

François Gayot joined the community of Montfort, and was ordained on 7 February 1954 to the priest.

On November 22, 1974, Pope Paul VI. Gayot Bishop of Cap- Haïtien. On 2 February 1975, he received from the then nuncio to Haiti, Luigi Barbarito, episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were François- Wolff Ligonde, Archbishop of Port-au -Prince, and Remy Augustin, Coadjutor Bishop of Port -de- Paix.

With the elevation of the Diocese of Cap-Haïtien to the archbishopric by Pope John Paul II on April 7, 1988 Gayot became its first archbishop. For several years he was chairman of the Episcopal Conference of Haiti.

His old conditional resignation to the Pope took place with effect from 5 November 2003.

François Gayot held in December 2010 as the official representative of the Haitian church on at a meeting of the International Catholic Migration Commission ( ICMC ) on migration issues in Rome. Here he had to be instructed to medical condition in the Gemelli Hospital, where he died a short time later.
