Hubert Constant

Hubert Constant, OMI ( born September 18, 1931 in Camp -Perrin, † 23 September 2011 in Canape -Vert ) was a Haitian religious clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Cap- Haïtien. He was from 1999 to 2005 and president of the Haitian bishops' conference.

Life

Hubert Constant entered in 1955 the Congregation of the Oblates ( OMI ) and received on 15 September 1958, the ordination. He worked in parish ministry in Cap- Haïtien, Les Cayes and Port -au -Prince. In addition, he worked as a teacher and director at the minor seminary of Saint -Eugène de Mazenod in Camp -Perrin. From 1979 he was director of the College Saint -Jean in Les Cayes.

In 1981, he was for two terms, six years, was appointed Provincial of the Haitian province of the order. From 1987 to 1991 he headed the scholasticate the province.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 31 January 1991 concerning the bishop of the newly erected Diocese of Fort - Liberté. He received his episcopal consecration of the Archbishop of Cap- Haïtien, François Gayot SMM, on April 7 of the same year; Co-consecrators were Jean Alix Verrier, Bishop of Les Cayes, and Joseph Willy Romelus, Bishop of Jérémie.
