Frank Hadow

Patrick Francis "Frank" Hadow ( born January 24, 1855 in London, † June 29, 1946 in Bridgwater ) was an English tennis player and Wimbledon champion in 1878.

Biography

Hadow came in 1855 in London's Regents Park to the world and attended Harrow School. Later he owned a coffee plantation in Ceylon. While vacationing in England in 1878 learned the Cricketer of the second edition of the Wimbledon Championships and decided to attend. He immediately reached the final, where he prevailed over the previous year's winner Spencer Gore in three sets. After his victory he returned to Ceylon and took part in a tournament some more.

Later, he was still known as a big game hunter in Africa. He died in 1946 at the age of 91 years in Bridgwater.

Hadow is considered the inventor of praise.
