Frank Peter Zimmermann

Frank Peter Zimmermann ( born February 27, 1965 in Duisburg ) is a German violinist.

Life and work

Frank Peter Zimmermann learned to play the violin at the age of five years with his mother, a violin teacher. He gave his first public concert at the age of ten. At age eleven, he won the competition Youth makes music, he came in the same year at the Folkwang School in Essen, where he was a pupil of Valery Gradow. Since the end of his studies in 1985, which he continued with Saschko Gawriloff and Herman Krebbers, he has performed with the most famous orchestras and conductors in the world. His official debut was in 1981 with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra with Mozart's Violin Concerto KV 216 He played at festivals and concerts in all continents. His recordings include all the great violin concertos of world literature.

In February 2003, he played with the Berlin Philharmonic under Peter Eötvös the premiere of the Violin Concerto " s sourdine " by Matthias Pintscher. Meanwhile, Frank Peter Zimmermann is one of the most famous German violinists of his generation.

Regular chamber music partners are the pianist Enrico Pace, and Christian Zacharias, and cellist Heinrich Schiff. His recording of the Brahms Double Concerto with Heinrich Schiff was awarded the German Record Critics' Award. With the known violist Tabea Zimmermann ( with whom he is not related), he led several dozen times on the Sinfonia concertante in E flat major KV 364 by Mozart.

Since 2007, the Trio Zimmermann with Frank Peter Zimmermann, violin, Antoine Tamestit, viola and Christian Poltéra, cello.

Zimmermann played the " ex Dragonetti " in 1706 and is currently the formerly Fritz Kreisler belonging Stradivari "Lady Inchiquin " of 1711, both of which belong to the Foundation West German Landesbank.

Zimmermann lives with his wife and two children in Cologne. His 1991 born son Serge Zimmermann is now established as a violinist and soloist.
