Fred Jackson, Jr.

Fred Jackson, Jr. ( * ca 1945) is an American saxophonist ( alto, tenor and baritone saxophone) and flautist of the fusion - jazz.

After his time in the army Jackson played in 1967 and 1968 with Ray Charles. After training at the California Institute of the Arts in 1971, he was member of the band of Bobby Hutcherson and was involved in the recording of Head On. Frank Zappa brought him to the recordings of The Grand Wazoo. In 1975, he played in the big band of Horace Silver. During the next three decades, he was primarily active as a studio musician with Jimmy Smith, Carole King, John Mayall, Maria Muldaur, Bill Cosby, Ry Cooder, Joe Sample, The Whispers, Solomon Burke, Diane Schuur and Earth, Wind & Fire.
