The Whispers
The Whispers is called an American R & B and soul band that was founded in 1964 in Los Angeles. In Germany they had a hit with 1980 And the Beat Goes On.
Band History
The first single was called the Whispers I Was Born When You Kissed Me, and appeared in 1966. A moderate success in 1969, The Time Will Come. A year later succeeded with Seems Like I Gotta Do Wrong the first time made it into the Top 50 on the Billboard Hot 100 Somebody Loves You ( 1973), A Mother for My Children (1974 ), One for the Money (1976) and make it with You (1977 ) achieved lower echelons of the U.S. charts.
1980 followed And the Beat Goes On, which even made it into the U.S. at number 19 in Germany at number 20 and in the UK at # 2. The album The Whispers in the U.S. rose in 6th place Gordy Harmon played but there was no longer with. He was replaced in 1973 by Leaveil Degree, the earlier 'Friends of Distinction ' belonged.
Lady (U.S. 28, UK 55) and My Girl (UK 26) were called the hits in 1980. Succeeded in 1981 by It's a Love Thing the leap to number 9 in the UK and number 28 in the home. A short time later, the band with I Can Make it Better had another hit in the United Kingdom ( 44th). This Time (UK # 81 ), and Tonight ( U.S. number 84 ) in 1983 reached lower chart positions.
1985 Whispers were mainly in the UK, where Contagious ( No. 56 ) and Some Kinda Lover ( number 91 ) Hit Parade courts were able to record, success. With some guest musicians followed the album Just Gets Better with Time in 1986. The extraction Rocksteady made it into the U.S. at No. 7 and in the UK charts at number 38 The result Singles Special FX (UK No. 69 ) and No Pain No Gain (UK # 81 ) continued the long line of Whispers hits.
1990 Hutson also left the band for health reasons, and Innocent was the last hit single of Whispers (U.S. # 55 ). In 2000, Marcus Hutson died after a long illness. The other members of Whispers decided not to replace Hutson by a new member. From then played Wallace " Scotty" Scott, Walter Scott, Nicholas Caldwell and Leaveil Degree only four.
Despite absence of chart success since then, the group still has a loyal fan base worldwide. The Whispers go up today on tour and produce new CDs, for example, 2006 For Your Ears Only. Over the years, the band's music has become more soulful and quiet, but unmistakable remains of the typical polyphonic song as a trademark. With over 40 years in the music business The Whispers among the oldest soul groups in America.
The Whispers were incorporated into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2003.
