Frederuna

Frederuna (French Frédérune; * around 887, † February 10 917 in Lorraine ), also called Fréderonne and Frérone, was a West Frankish queen and first wife of Charles III.

Life

The Descent Frederunas is still unclear. Maybe they came from the Saxon House of Immedinger and was a daughter of Count Dietrich von Ingelheim and his wife Reginlind ( Rhingildim ). This would have been a sister of the Holy Mathilde, who was married to the East Frankish King Henry I.. Another theory about Frederunas origin is to the effect that she was from Lorraine nobility. It is clear that she has been II (French Beuve II), Bishop of Chalons, and a relative of Mathilde's sister Bovos.

In April of the year 907 Frederuna married probably in Laon at the age of 20 years, the West Frankish king Charles III. From this connection came from six daughters, but no male heir to the throne. Then she vanished from public life, is found in some publications the assumption that the strictly religious and pious Frederuna had been infringed by the king. This hypothesis is not supported by any document handed down.

Frederuna died on 10 February 917 and found their final resting place at the Basilica of Saint- Remi in Reims. Since it was necessary to secure the succession to the throne by a male heir, married Charles III. Two years later, the English princess Eadgifu.
