Freiburger Verkehrs AG

The Freiburg traffic AG ( VAG ) is a public transport company in Freiburg im Breisgau. The company fully owned by the city of Freiburg located operates the tram opened in 1901, Freiburg im Breisgau (lines 1, 2, 3 and 5) and 22 bus lines with a 248 -kilometer route network. In addition, the ISA operates the 1930 and Schauinslandbahn.

With the exception of Schauinslandbahn and night buses Safe Traffic applies to all lines of VAG the tariff of the Regional Transport Network Freiburg ( RVF ), whose co-partner is the VAG. The RVF coordinated public transport in Freiburg im Breisgau and the neighboring counties Emmendingen Breisgau Black Forest.

History

Forerunner of the VAG was the " Directorate of the power station and the tram ", which was established on 1 October 1899. Existing since 1891 omnibus lines were then replaced by the electric streetcar on 14 October 1901. This directorate went on in the VAG on 1 January 1974. On 1 October 1984, the environmental map was introduced (today Regiokarte ), which is instrumental in the success of public transport in the Freiburg area.

On 1 January 2009, the current reference of the Freiburg trams and the Schauinslandbahn was converted to 100 percent green power. This means that the VAG more than 13 gigawatt hours of electricity carbon neutral refers hydropower, wind power and solar energy from the local utility badenova annually.

Night buses

The VAG operates under the name " Safe Traffic" seven night buses which run in the nights on Saturday and Sunday and eve of public holidays. These lines, which are named after the planets of the solar system, all start in the town center ( on Bertoldsbrunnen ) and make it 2:00 to 5:00 clock almost every hour of the surrounding neighborhoods and communities to achieve. More distant villages are approached from interchange points with additional call taxis ( AST). The destination must already be communicated to the driver when boarding, which then may be appointed the AST in general. Some places are also approached by the night bus only as needed. It applies a uniform tariff, but which differs from the regular RVF tariff. To use the call taxis, a surcharge will be levied.
