The Scarlet Fritillarie ( Fritillaria recurva ) is a plant from the lily family ( Liliaceae ).

Description

The Scarlet Fritillarie is a perennial, herbaceous plant that is between 30 and 90 inches high. The bulbs of these geophytes consist of six large and 20 to 30 small starchy onion flakes.

The leaves are arranged opposite one another in 1-3 whorls à 2 to 5 individual sheets. The spreading are linear to narrowly lanceolate and are 3-15 inches long.

The hermaphrodite flowers are nodding, the perianth is loose. They bloom from March to June. The six non -blown bloom are scarlet, adaxial with yellow, abaxially with purple spots. They are 1.5 to 3.7 inches long. The nectaries located at the base of the flower, they are yellow and narrowly lanceolate. They are up to 1/4 as long as the tepals. The ovary is upper constant, the stylus is much branched to 1/4 to 1/2 its length.

The three compartments are clearly winged seed capsules in the longitudinal direction.

Scarlet Fritillarien thrive on dry slopes, in the Badlands, or forests at altitudes 300-2200 meters above sea level.

The distribution area extends in western North America California, Nevada and Oregon.
