Fritz Kaufmann

Fritz Kaufmann ( born April 15, 1905 in Grindelwald, † January 1941 ) was a Swiss ski jumpers and Nordic combined. He was in the late 1920s and early 1930s were the best Swiss Springer, took part several times at the World Championships and 1932 Olympics in the Winter Games and won in addition to numerous other competitions twice jumping at the Swiss Championships. His biggest success was winning the silver medal at the World Championships 1931 in Oberhof.

Biography

Fritz Kaufmann began during his school days with the skiing and showed as a youngster already a strikingly clean jump style. When he first started in Engelberg in the class of Senior I at the Great Ski Race in Switzerland in 1925, he finished third in the ski jumping. Kaufmann became the best jumpers of Switzerland and won in 1929 and 1930, the ski jumping at the Great Ski Race Switzerland, the Swiss Ski Championships in Arosa, Engelberg. Official Swiss championships were awarded in ski jumping but only from 1934.

In February 1930 Kaufmann first participated at the Nordic World Ski Championships, which was held that year in Oslo. There he was the best Swiss and simultaneously prime Central Europeans behind a phalanx of Norwegians and Swedes, the 22th place in ski jumping. In December of the same year he jumped on the Mettenberg hill in Grindelwald a new hill record of 52 meters.
