Fritz Pfenninger

Fritz Pfenninger (* October 15, 1934 in Zurich, † May 12, 2001 ) was a Swiss professional road bicycle racer. With 33 victories 1954-1970 he was one of the most successful six-day riders.

Fritz Pfenninger, nicknamed " Pfänni ", with 20 years professional cycling. In addition to his successes in six-day races, he won several times title as European champions in the Omnium and two - team driving as well as twice as Swiss champion in the sprint. 19 alone, he won victories at the side of the legendary Dutchman Peter Post. In 1968 Pfenninger together with his namesake, the two-time Tour de Suisse winner Louis Pfenninger, the Six Days of Montreal. 1972, at the age of 38 years, was second in Pfenninger the Swiss road championships.

After ending his career as a professional cycling Pfenninger opened a restaurant. He died in 2001 after a long illness and a liver transplant.

In the 49th Zurich Six Day races in the same year the " Fritz Pfenninger Memorial " was extended in his honor, which was won by Bruno Risi and Kurt Betschart.
