Fully Integrated Robotised Engine

The FIRE engine ( for engl. " Fully Integrated Robotised Engine" ) is a motor series of Fiat Powertrain Technologies. The Italian design firm Rodolfo Bonetto was involved in the construction. The engine was fully automated on a robotic line assembled ( " Robogate " ), wherein he became affordable than its predecessor in the making.

The FIRE replaced mid-eighties, the little Fiat OHV engine, which still goes back in its main features to the engine of the Fiat 600. The FIRE is a 4 - cylinder in-line engine with five main bearings, cast iron block and toothed belt driven overhead camshaft in a light-alloy cylinder head with parallel overhead valves and tappets.

The motor is built since 1985 in various versions, with displacements 769-1368 cc with eight valves and in the so-called " Super -FIRE " version with 16 valves with 999 cc (Brazil) and 1242 cc (Brazil and Europe).

Was introduced by the motor, Y10 (1985 ), the Fiat subsidiary Lancia, followed by the Fiat Uno ( 1985) and Fiat Panda ( 1986).

The 1368 cc version was introduced in 2003, is available both with eight and with 16 valves; In 2005, Fiat a version with variable intake and exhaust-gas recirculation ago. This engine is commonly called the " space dinghy " engine. Likewise, 2005 was a supercharged, turbocharged 1368 cc version, called " T-Jet " engine, introduced, followed in 2009 by a motor with an electro-hydraulic valve control system Multiair.

The mixture of the FIRE came initially from a single carburettor Weber. Over the years the engine has been successively to the SPI ( single point injection), MPI (multi point fuel injection) and, most recently last for SMPI ( sequential multipoint injection) further developed. The FIRE engine is currently used in the Formula 750 in a slightly modified version.

List of FIRE engines

The FIRE has been or will be built in the following engine capacity variants:

  • 769 cc ( 0.8 L) - 65 mm Bohrungx 58 mm stroke 8v ( 1986-1992 )
  • 999 cc ( 1.0 L) - 70 mm Bohrungx 64.9 mm stroke 8v ( 1986-1993 )
  • 8v SPI ( 1987-2003 )
  • 16v SMPI (1998-2003, only Brazil)
  • 8v SMPI flex-fuel ( 2005 - present, only Brazil)

Use

Production

As part of the Operating Agreement 2009 Chrysler began commercial production of FIRE in the Dundee plant in Michigan. Chrysler's first FIRE - variant, a 100 hp 1.4 - liter FIRE MultiAir, was introduced as the first in the Fiat 500, 2010.
