Furka–Oberalp-Bahn Deh 4/4 I

The Deh 4/4 I is a narrow-gauge baggage motor coach series of the former Furka -Oberalp -Bahn ( FO), today Matterhorn -Gotthard - Bahn (MGB ), for adhesion and rack operation. The series includes five vehicles ( numbers 51 to 55 ). Four mechanically similar but electrically different type of vehicles were procured as Deh 4/4 21-24 of the Brig -Visp- Zermatt -Bahn ( BVZ ) and now also belong to the MGB.

History

Since the rolling stock in the 60s largely outdated and the traffic in the winter season was greatly increased, the FO desperately needed more powerful locomotives. They opted for powerful baggage railcars that could be used liberally on the whole network. The five vehicles of the type Deh 4/4 were ordered in 1972 and dissolved the HGe 2/2 and the ABDeh 2/4 from that could no longer cope with the winter sports traffic on the Schöllenenbahn. Parallel to the railcar four control cars and eight matching passenger coaches were procured, with which four three-piece commuter trains could be formed. 1977, an additional fifth shuttle available from vehicles was compiled.

A replica of the FO Deh 4/4 received a completely different box, which is why these vehicles were distinguished by the FO as Deh 4/4 I and II. Since the merger, the MGB this term is no longer used, the MGB distinguishes the series according to the number ranges 21, 51 and 91

Technology

For reasons of weight reduction of car body is made of lightweight metal construction. The equipment cabinets with electronic and pneumatic equipment are housed in the luggage compartment in the middle. The transformer is located under the car body, bogies have two engines.

Use

The former Deh 4/4 I and II of the FO are mainly used together with two intermediate cars and a control car as firmly coupled commuter trains. Between Disentis and Andermatt ( Oberalp, 110 ‰), one and between Visp and Andermatt (Goms, 90 ‰ ), two reserve cars are appended. Between Andermatt and Göschenen ( Schöllenenschlucht, 179 ‰) no reserve cars are possible. The shuttle trains are connected within the composition with the automatic GF clutch ( GFN ). For other uses of the couplings must be replaced. Inserts to Zermatt are not have known.
