Fuscherkarkopf

The Fuscherkarkopf (far right) of Ferleiten in Fusch valley.

The Fuscherkarkopf, sometimes also written Fuscher - Kar - head and formerly called Fuschereiskarkopf, is one consisting of two moutain peaks of the Glockner Group in the Middle Tauern main ridge in the Hohe Tauern, a mountain range in the central Alps. The mountain lies on the border between the Austrian provinces of Salzburg and Carinthia. The main peak is 3331 meters high, whilst the North West Summit only has a height of 3252 meters. The two peaks are about 500 meters apart and connected by a curved ridge fissured hanging. To the northwest and west run more distinctive ridges that form the Tauern main ridge. To the southeast the Heiligenblut free wall branches off a powerful comb side, the southeast ridge begins as the Fuscherkarkopf. The north- western peak has a huge, about 650 feet high west wall, which was formerly covered with Firn, but is now covered with loose rock slabs. The mountain is easily accessible from the Hofmann hut on the southwest and offers a good view of the Grossglockner and the Pasterze. The head was first climbed in the 1840s by the hunter Gregor Maier, called Badhans from Fusch.

Environment

The Fuscherkarkopf is surrounded except in the southeast, by glaciers. To the west lies the waterfall angle Southern, on the lower part of the Bockkarkeeses, in the north and in the west the small Fuscherkarkees the insignificant Freiwandkees. In the south, after all, the Pasterze, the largest glacier in the Eastern Alps extends. Adjacent Mountains are in the course of Nordwestgrats, separated by the location on 2841 meters of the 3115 meter high Fuscherkarscharte Breitkopf and on the Mean bear head with 3358 meters of altitude. In the course of the west ridge, which forms the Tauern main ridge is separated by a Einschartung named The Rinner ( 3145 m), the 3261 meter high Sinabeleck. To the east follow the Capuchins ( 2852 m) and the 3027 -meter-high Spielmann. To the southeast, along the Heiligenblut free wall rise, separated by the free wall Charter ( 2975 m), free wall Spitz ( 3034 m) and free wall head ( 2854 m). South of the two peaks is the Gamsgrube, with a huge 600 meters in diameter, boilers shaped Hochkar. The nearest major settlement is about 8 km in a straight line to the southeast location Heiligenblut in Carinthia. Good 15 km to the northeast lies the Salzburgische Fusch on the Großglockner High Alpine Road.

Bases and tours

Today's normal route, the easiest climb to the Fuscherkarkopf has been committed first on 27 August 1882 by the geologist Carl Diener, August von Böhm, Friedrich Carl von plate and Camerlander. Your path led from the Hofmann Hut on 2444 meters over the southwest ( Gamsgrubengrat ), first to the north- west summit and then the Connection Ridge west to Fuscherkarkopf main summit. Today this route is partially equipped with cable Insurance, and the top carrying a cross. From the hut, the walking time is according to the literature about 2 ½ hours and the difficulty of the path move in difficulty UIAA I . Further increases lead over the other ridges and as ice tour since 1920 by north face and north face (up to 450 meters and a Eisneigung of 50 °). The Hubert Peterka and companions first 1927 unclimbed west face is, since the ice pad is melted by global warming, no longer accessible because of the great danger of falling rocks.
