Galen is a small crater in the rugged area between the lunar Apennines to the west and the Montes Haemus in the east. It is located south- southeast of the slightly larger crater Aratus. Further west is to the crater Conon on the flanks of the Montes Apenninus.

The circular crater with its sharp edge and bowl-shaped interior has no major signs of erosion. The small crater floor has a lower albedo than the crater walls.

Marriage Galen 1973 by the International Astronomical Union ( IAU) got its own name, he was led as a satellite crater Aratus called Aratus A.
