Gánovce

Gánovce ( German Goose Village - previously Gohansdorf / Johann village, Hungarian Gánóc ) is a municipality southeast of the town of Poprad in eastern Slovakia.

It was first mentioned in 1317 for the first time in writing as Villa Ganau and comprises the main town Gánovce ( Goose Village ) and the 1924 eingemeindeten place Filice ( Fillendorf or Filsdorf ).

In archeology Gánovce is significant as one of the most important Neanderthal sites in Europe ( Travertinfüllung the skull of a Neanderthal man ).
