Gardena is a city in Los Angeles County in the U.S. state of California, United States, with 60,300 inhabitants ( 2004). Gardena was originally part of Rancho San Pedro, the fief, the Juan Jose Dominguez in 1784 by King Charles III. obtained.
The nickname of the city The City of Opportunity was adopted in 2006. The former motto The City Freeway was referring to the near Gardena for intersection of Freeway 405, 110, and 91 of them but none runs through the urban area.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 15.1 km ², consisting solely of the country.
Demography
At the time of the census of 2000, there were 57 746 people Gardena city. The population density was 3830.9 people per km ². There were 21 041 residential units, an average of 1395.9 per km ². The population consisted of Gardenas 23.82 % White, 25.99 % African American, 0.64% Native American, 26.82 % Asian, 0.73 % Pacific Islander, 16.94 % reported other races to belong and 5.05 % from two or more races. 31.82 % of the population to be Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Residents Gardenas distributed to 20,324 households out of which 33.5 % were living in children under 18 years. 44.5 % married couples living together, 18.1 % had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.0 % were non-families. 25.5% of households were made up of individuals and someone lived in 8.2 % of all households aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.80 and the average family size is 3.38 people.
