Maxine Waters

Maxine Waters ( born August 15, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri) is an American politician. Since 1991, it represents the state of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Maxine Moore Carr, so her maiden name, the Vashon High School attended in St. Louis. In 1961 she moved to California. There, she worked in a garment factory and as a telephone operator. From 1966 she worked in Watts for a local project called Head Start Program. In addition, she studied until 1970 at the California State University in Los Angeles. At the same time she began a career in politics as a member of the Democratic Party. Between 1972 and 1988 she was the delegate to all Democratic National Conventions; 1977-1991 she sat as a Member in the California State Assembly.

In the congressional elections of 1990, Waters became the 29th electoral district of California in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where they became the successor of Augustus F. Hawkins on January 3, 1991. After ten previously re- election they can exercise their mandate in Congress today. Since 1993, she represents as the successor of Jerry Lewis the 35th district of their state. In her time as a Congressman, the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001, the Iraq war and the military mission in Afghanistan fell. Maxine Waters is a member of the Finance Committee and the Judiciary Committee and five subcommittees. In 1997 and 1998 she also headed the Congressional Black Caucus; Further, it belongs to the Congressional Progressive Caucus. She fights against Rassendiskrimierung and supported a proposal to compensate the descendants of former slaves. Waters was also a decided opponent of the Iraq war. Since 2004 she has been confronted with allegations of bribery; but it came in spite of some investigations at no charge. After another re-election in 2012, Ms. Waters represents January 3, 2013 as the successor to Joe Baca the 43rd electoral district of their state.

Maxine Waters is married for the second time and lived privately in Los Angeles.
