Loretta Sanchez

Loretta Sanchez ( born January 7, 1960 in Lynwood, California) is an American politician.

Career

Loretta Sanchez is the older sister of Congressman Linda Sánchez. Her family was originally from Mexico. Overall, she has six siblings. Sanchez attended Katella High School in Anaheim and then studied until 1982 at the Chapman University in Orange. This was followed up in 1984 to study at the American University in the capital city Washington DC of. From 1984 to 1996 she worked as a financial analyst. Politically, it was first a member of the Republican Party. In 1992, she candied unsuccessfully for the City Council of Anaheim. In 1996, she joined the Democrats.

In the congressional elections of 1996, Sanchez was elected the 46th electoral district of California in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where they became the successor of Bob Dornan on January 3, 1997. After previous seven elections they can exercise their mandate in Congress today. There she sits in the Armed Services Committee, the Committee on Homeland Security and the Joint Economic Committee. She is also a member of the International Conservation Caucus and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. In her time as a Congressman, the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001, the Iraq war and the military mission in Afghanistan fell. Focus of her political work are education, crime reduction, economic development and the protection of older citizens. Loretta Sanchez voted in 2002 against the Iraq war. After she had represented 2003-2013 47th constituency of their state in Congress, she returned to a renewed re-election in 2013 in the 46th electoral district back.

Together with her sister Linda she is so far the only female sibling pair that is party to the convention.
