Steven T. Kuykendall

Steven T. Kuykendall ( born January 27, 1947 in McAlester, Pittsburg County, Oklahoma) is an American politician. Between 1999 and 2001 he represented the state of California in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Steven Kuykendall attended Exeter Academy and then studied until 1968 at Oklahoma City University. After that, he was at times used as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Vietnam War. He then continued his education until 1974, continuing his studies at San Diego State University. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. In Rancho Palos Verdes, he was both City Council and Mayor. Between 1994 and 1998 he sat as a deputy in the California State Assembly.

In the congressional elections of 1998 Kuykendall was the 36th electoral district of California in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Jane Harman on 3 January 1999. Since he was defeated in the 2000, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 2001. The 2000 election was extremely tight: Harman reached 48 percent and Kuykendall 47 percent of the vote.

During the administration of President George W. Bush Kuykendall was as Navy Under Secretary in the conversation. Otherwise, it is not long emerged since his resignation from the Congress; in the congressional elections of 2012 he ran in the 47th District of California to return to parliament, but finished only third in the open primary, falling short of taking part in the ballot.
