Gayatri Devi

Gayatri Devi ( * May 23, 1919 in London, † July 29, 2009 in Jaipur, Rajasthan ) was Maharani of Jaipur.

Her parents were Maharaja Jitendra Narayan of Cooch Behar and Maharani Indira Raje, a daughter of the Maharaja of Baroda. Gayatris father died when she was three years old.

She married on 9 May 1940 Maharaja of Jaipur, Man Singh II and became his third wife. Gayatri was in its time one of the most beautiful women in the world; so they named the fashion magazine Vogue in her youth as one of the ten most beautiful women in the world. After dissolution of the princely state, she was elected as a member of the Swatantra party in the Indian parliament the third, fourth and fifth Lok Sabha. She is author of the books A Princess Remembers and A Government 's Gateway.
