Geistthal is a 825 inhabitants village in the district court or district Voitsberg in Styria. From 1 January 2015 it has joined forces framework of the Styrian municipality structural reform with the community Södingberg, the new community will be called " Geistthal - Södingberg ".

Geography

Geistthal is located about 40 km west of Graz at the foot of the Gleinalpe, at the transition from the hill country to the alpine country.

Community structure

The municipality comprises the following four localities ( in parentheses population as of 31 October 2011):

  • Eggartsberg (309)
  • Geistthal (280 )
  • Small Alpe (113 )
  • Sonnleiten (139 )

The municipality comprises the cadastral Eggartsberg, Geistthal, Small Alpe and Sonnleiten.

The neighboring municipalities are Übelbach in the north, Gschnaidt in the east, Södingberg and Baernbach in the south and carbon black and Gallmannsegg in the West.

History

Geistthal is known for its history and related historical finds.

Culture and sights

An attraction of the place is the late-Gothic parish church of St. Jacob with its Romanesque ossuary.

Clubs

In the village there are many possibilities to do socially.

These include a beekeeping club, music club, women's movement, FC Geistthal, Kameradschaftsbund, senior citizens movement, hunters club, Eisschützenverein, etc.

And also for the youth is to be found in the form of rural youth a suitable recreational opportunity.
