The Gelster is a 17.5 km long, left or south-westerly tributary of the Werra in the Werra- Meißner-Kreis in northeastern Hesse, Germany.

Course

The Gelster, which is one of the largest tributaries of the Werra on Hessian territory, rises in the natural park Meissner Kaufunger forest on the northern slopes of the Deer Mountain, the south-west of Grossalmerode with 643.4 m above sea level. Origin of the name
