The Generalna Dyrekcja Drog Krajowych i Autostrad (English about: General Directorate for National Roads and Highways; Abbreviation: GDDKiA ) is a central agency of the Government of Poland to the management of Droga Krajowa and the implementation of the state budget in this area. It was founded in 2002 and is 100 % owned by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development ( by November 2013, Ministry of Transport, Construction and Maritime Economy ). Its head office is located in Warsaw, a further 16 regional offices located primarily in major cities in the individual provinces. Current Director General of GDDKiA is Ewa Tomala - Borucka.

History

The Authority was created by the Ministry of Infrastructure from the merger of the General Directorate of Public Roads ( pl.: Generalna Dyrekcja Drog Publicznych ) on April 1, 2002: founded and the Agency for the construction and operation of highways ( Agencja Budowy i Eksploatacji Autostrad pl. ).

2009 celebrated the 190th anniversary of the GDDKiA introduction of a central road administration in Poland. The establishment of the Jenerál Directorate of Roads and Bridges of the Polish Kingdom ( pl.: Dyrekcja Drog i Mostow Jeneralna Królestwa Polskiego ) in 1819 made ​​the beginning of a central road administration in the former Polish territories.

Tasks

The Authority is responsible for the national roads. It performs the tasks of managers for the highways, expressways and national roads and realized the state budget for these types of roads. The tasks of the GDDKiA also include

  • The management of traffic on motorways, expressways and national roads
  • The protection of historic roads,
  • Performing tasks that, in the preparation and coordination of construction and operation, or only the operation of toll motorways
  • And toll collection in accordance with the provisions for toll motorways and the National Road Fund.
