Geoff Harcourt

Geoffrey Colin Harcourt (* June 27, 1931 in Melbourne) is an Australian economist and economic historian.

Life and work

Geoff Harcourt, was born as the son of Kenneth Kopel Harcourt and Marjorie Rachel Harcourt, born goose. He attended Malvern Grammar School and Wesley College in Melbourne. From 1951 he studied at the University of Melbourne where in 1954 the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours ), and in 1956 the Master of Commerce acquired. His master's thesis is titled Pilot Survey of Savings in Melbourne. He went to Cambridge, where he was one of the students of Joan Robinson and Nicholas Kaldor and 1960 for Ph.D. received his advantage. In 1958 he went to the University of Adelaide, where he was a Lecturer ( 1958-1962 ), Senior Lecturer ( 1963-1965 ), Reader ( 1965-1967 ) and professor working with Chair ( 1967-1985 ). In 1988 he became Professor Emeritus there. 1982-1998 he was a Fellow at Jesus College, University of Cambridge and Lecturer in Economics ( 1982-1990 ). In 1988 he received the title of Doctor of Letters. 1990 to 1998 he was reader of history of economic theory, Cambridge.

Harcourt works for Postkeynesianismus and the history of economic theory, particularly the theory of capital.

In 1955 he married Joan Margaret Bartrop, with whom he has two sons and two daughters. His hobbies include Running (not jogging ), cycling, cricket, Australian Rules Football, reading and politics.
