Georg von Holtzbrinck

Georg von Holtzbrinck ( born May 11, 1909 in House Schöpplenberg, Hagen, † April 27, 1983 in Stuttgart ) was a German publisher and bookseller.

Youth and studies

Holtzbrinck was a child of a noble estate owner in Hagen in Westphalia and had four other siblings. Formative experience of childhood was the impoverishment of the family through mismanagement and inflation. Holtzbrinck, which a law degree at Bonn and Cologne began in 1929, had to earn his own living. In 1931 he became a member of the National Socialist German Students' League ( NSDStB ). In the summer of 1930 he began working as a recruiter for the Library subscribers of entertainment and knowledge of the Union's German publishing company (Stuttgart).
