Georg Weinhold

George Weinhold ( born November 28, 1934 in Zittau, † October 10, 2013 in Dresden) was auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Dresden - Meissen. He was the first Bishop of the Diocese of Meissen since the Reformation.

Life

After studying Catholic theology in Erfurt and Neuzelle Weinhold received on 19 December 1959 Bautzener cathedral for the Diocese of Meissen by Bishop Otto Spülbeck the sacrament of Holy Orders. Subsequently, he worked from 1960 in Kamenz and from 1965 in Leipzig Conne joke Kaplan. He was at first assistant priest in 1968 and in 1971 pastor in Dippoldiswalde. Pope Paul VI. appointed him on July 5, 1973 Titular Bishop of Idicra and auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Meissen (later Diocese of Dresden - Meissen renamed). On this occasion he chose the motto In Laudem gloriae gratiae suae ( " To the praise of his glorious grace" ) from Ephesians ( Eph 1.6 EU). Bishop Joachim Reinelt conferred on him in 1997 at the same time the office of vicar general in the Diocese of Dresden- Meissen, in which he followed Prelate Georg Hanke and which he held until 2004. In the German Bishops Conference, he was a member of the Commission IV: "Spiritual communities and movements ."

On 22 August 2008, Pope Benedict XVI. Weinhold pre- mounted on health grounds resignation. George Weinhold was at the time of his retirement the senior suffragan bishop (35 years in office) of the Roman Catholic Church throughout the world.
