George Murry

George Vance Murry SJ (born 28 December 1948 in Camden ) is an American clergyman and bishop of Youngstown.

Life

George Vance Murry joined the Congregation of the Jesuits and received on 9 June 1979, the ordination.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 24 January 1995 on the Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago and titular bishop of Fuerteventura. He received his episcopal consecration of the Archbishop of Chicago, Joseph Louis Cardinal Bernardin, on 20 March of the same year; Co-consecrators were Alfred Leo Abramowicz, Auxiliary Bishop of Chicago, and Timothy Joseph Lyne, Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Chicago.

As a motto he chose Christ my Light. On 5 May 1998 he was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Saint Thomas. After withdrawal Elliot Griffin Thomas ' he followed him on 29 June 1999 by the Bishop of Saint Thomas. On 30 January 2007 he was appointed bishop of Youngstown and introduced into the office on 28 March of the same year.
