George Osborne, 10th Duke of Leeds

George Godolphin Osborne, 10th Duke of Leeds (* September 18, 1862, † May 10, 1927 ) was a British aristocrat (peer ) and politicians.

George Osborne was the second son of George Osborne, 9th Duke of Leeds, and Frances Georgiana Pitt- Rivers ( 1836-1896 ), a daughter of George Pitt- Rivers, 4th Baron Rivers. His older brother George Frederick had died a few days after his birth in 1861. Osborne had next five younger sisters, Harriet Castalia (1867-1922), Susan Alice (1869-1951), Ada Charlotte (1870-1944), Alexandra Louisa (1872-1938) and Constance Blanche (1875-1939), and two younger brothers, Francis (1864-1924) and Albert Edward ( 1866-1914 ).

Osborne married in 1884 Lady Katherine Frances Lambton, a daughter of George Lambton, 2nd Earl of Durham and Lady Beatrix Frances Hamilton. They had five children:

  • John Francis (1901-1963)

Osborne introduced as heir to the ducal title, first to 1872 the courtesy title Earl of Danby, then after the death of his grandfather those of a Marquess of Carmarthen. From 1887 to 1896 he was MP for Brixton in the House of Commons. He completed his military career as a Lieutenant in the Yorkshire Hussars from and Captain in the Royal Naval Reserve.

After the death of his father in 1895 he inherited the title of Duke of Leeds. From 1895 to 1896 he held the court office of the Treasurer of the Household. From 1921 to 1922 he served as aide- de-camp 's personal adjutant of King George V. He died in 1927 at the age of 64 years. His son John Francis Godolphin Osborne succeeded him as the 11th Duke of Leeds.
