George Osborne, 9th Duke of Leeds

George Godolphin Osborne, 9th Duke of Leeds ( born August 11, 1828 in Paris, France; † 23 December 1895 in Hornby Castle, Yorkshire, England ) was a British aristocrat (peer ) in the Victorian era.

George Osborne was the eldest son of George Osborne, 8th Duke of Leeds and Lady Harriet Emma Arundel Stewart ( † 1852), a non-marital daughter of the British statesman and diplomat Granville Leveson - Gower, 1st Earl Granville, and Henrietta Frances Spencer. Osborne had four younger sisters, Susan Georgina (1830-1903), Emma Charlotte (1837-1906), Charlotte (1838-1914) and Blanche (1842-1917), and three younger brothers, George Francis (1830-1907), D' Arcy (1834-1895) and William ( 1835-1888 ).

Osborne married in 1824 Frances Georgiana Pitt- Rivers ( 1836-1896 ), a daughter of George Pitt- Rivers, 4th Baron Rivers. They had nine children: George Frederick ( † 1861), George ( 1862-1927 ), Francis ( 1864-1924 ), Albert Edward ( 1866-1914 ), Harriet Castalia ( 1867-1922 ), Susan Alice ( 1869-1951 ), Ada Charlotte (1870-1944), Alexandra Louisa (1872-1938) and Constance Blanche ( 1875-1939 ).

After his father's death in 1872 George Osborne inherited the title of Duke of Leeds. He died in 1895 at the age of 67 years. His son George Godolphin Osborne succeeded him as 10th Duke of Leeds.
