George Svendsen

George Peter Svendsen, Junior ( born March 22, 1913 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA; † 6 August 1995 ) was a U.S. American football and basketball player. He played football in the National Football League ( NFL) with the Green Bay Packers.

Playing career

Svendsen attended high school in a suburb of Minneapolis. After completing his studies at Oregon State University and the University of Minnesota, he joined in 1935 the Green Bay Packers that have been trained by Curly Lambeau. The Packers were a team with many well-known players, such as the later members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Walt Kiesling, John McNally or the quarterback Arnie Herber.

Svendsen played within the offense of the team as a center and had to protect their own quarterback and the halfback McNally to block the way into the endzone free the task. He also starred alongside Clarke Hinkle, who was also in the offense, as well as in the defense used as linebacker in the defense of the team. 1936 was the Packers win 11 of their 13 games and defeated in the NFL Championship game, the Chicago Bears with 21:6. In the 1938 season we had to admit defeat in the final of the New York Giants at 23:17. Svendsen then sat out for two years to a football team at a high school in Wisconsin to train. He also played in 1937 and 1938 at the Oshkosh All-Stars, a professional basketball team in the National Basketball League.

In 1940 he returned to Green Bay back to the Packers. In the game year 1941, the team of Svendsen again succeeded in gaining in the final. The game was lost against the Bears with 33:14. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy, where he played in a military team. After the war he did not return to the Football Sport and operated a gas station.

Honors

Svendsen was once elected to the All- Pro. He is a member of the NFL 1930s All- Decade Team and the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame.
