George Takei

George Takei Hosato ( born April 20, 1937 in Los Angeles, California) is an American film and television actor. He became internationally known through the role of Hikaru Sulu in the Star Trek television series Star Trek and the subsequent movies.

Life

Takei has been locked between his fourth and eighth year as one of over 120,000 Japanese- Americans during World War II in internment without charge. He became politically active shortly after his drama degree at the University of California. Takei fought for civil rights and missed 1973 only just elected to the City Council of Los Angeles. After that, he pursued his career as an actor.

George Takei has also written three books. In 1979, he co-wrote with Robert Asprin the science- fiction novel Mirror Friend, Mirror Foe. In 1994 he published by Pocket Books his autobiography To the Stars, on the German appeared under the title To the stars in 1997. In his 2012 published e-book entitled Oh Myyy! - On Life, The Internet and Everything Takei turns with his thoughts and experiences, especially in recent years as a strong social media users, to his fans. In 2008 he participated in the reality show I'm a Celebrity ... Get Me out of Here! , where he finished third behind Martina Navratilova and winner Joe Swash.

Since 1987, Takei lives with his partner and manager Brad Altman together (* 1954). Takei's mother spent her last years with them and was looked after by both. In October 2005, with 68 years, he spoke publicly for the first time (see coming out ) in the journal Frontiers his homosexuality, which has long been an open secret among his fans to support the demands for same-sex marriage. On 14 September 2008, the two were married in the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles in front of a Buddhist priest.
