Georges Vedel

Georges Vedel ( born July 5, 1910 in Auch, Gers department, † 21 February 2002 ) was a French lawyer, in 1998 a member of the French Academy was.

Life

After the visit of the French lycées in occupied Mainz and one lycée in Toulouse Vedel graduated in law and philosophy at the University of Toulouse and graduated in 1936 with the Agrégation in Public Law from. Subsequently, he was a lecturer at the University of Poitiers and following 1939-1949 at the University of Toulouse before he was 1949-1979 Professor of Public Law at the University of Paris. During this time, he was from 1956 to 1957 legal adviser of the French delegation at the negotiations on the Common Market and the European Atomic Energy Community ( EURATOM) and 1962-1967 also Dean of the Law Faculty of the University of Paris. At times, he was also a professor at the so-called " Sciences Po ", the Institut d' études politiques de Paris, the École nationale supérieure des mines de Paris and at the École des hautes études commerciales ( HEC).

Vedel, who was from 1969 to 1979 member of the Economic and Social Council, also was 1976-1980 president of the Center for Studies on revenues and costs ( CERC ). 1980 he was appointed a member of the Constitutional Council, the Constitutional Court, where he served until 1989. In 1985 he was awarded the Grand Prize of the Académie des sciences morales et politiques in 1993 and was also Chairman of the Advisory Board to revise the Constitution of the Fifth French Republic.

On 28 May 1998 he was elected as the successor to René Huyghe for a member of the Académie française, and took there until his death in the fifth chair a ( armchair 5).

In addition, he was an honorary Doctor of Pantion University of Athens, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the Université Libre de Bruxelles, the University of Lausanne and the Universidad de Costa Rica, and Corresponding Member of the Royal Moroccan Academy and the Academy of Athens. In addition, he was awarded the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour and of the Ordre national du Mérite and the Croix de guerre. Vedel was also Commander of the Ordre des Palmes Académiques and Grand Officer of the Order of the Moroccan Alaouite Ouissam.
