Gerard Louis Frey

Gerard Louis Frey ( born May 10, 1914 in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, † August 16, 2007 in Lafayette, Louisiana) was the Roman Catholic Bishop of Lafayette.

Life

Gerard Louis Frey was ordained a priest on April 2, 1938 in his hometown of New Orleans. After working in pastoral care and in administrative positions, he was in 1967 by Pope Paul VI. Bishop of Savannah ordered in Georgia. He received his episcopal consecration Philip Matthew Hannan on August 8, 1967. Were co-consecrators the bishop of Alexandria, Charles Pasquale Greco, and the Bishop of Baton Rouge, Robert Emmet Tracy.

1972 Frey was appointed bishop of Lafayette. His 1989 resignation of John Paul II was approved.

Gerard Louis Frey was responsible for the comprehensive reorganization of the Diocese of Lafayette, among other things, he was also in charge of the scandal involving the pedophile priest Gilbert Gauthe; the diocese had to compensate for legal expenses over 20 million U.S. dollars.
