Giacomo Gaggini

Giacomo Gaggini or Gaginis (* December 15, 1517 in Palermo, † June 25, 1598 ) was a sculptor of the Renaissance in Sicily.

Life

Giacomo Gaginis was a member of the greatest sculptors family in Sicily. He was the son of Antonello and brother of Giovanni, Giandomenico, Antonino Fazio and Vincenzo Gaggini. After his father's death ( 1536) he was heir and took over the workshop management. First, he completed the initiated or designed by the father works, such as the Tribuna of the Cathedral of Palermo or the marble decoration in the Church of the Annunziata in Trapani at the end. In the years of his artistic career, he left numerous works on Sicily.

His main work, the marble works are in the Chiesa di Santa Maria dell'Udienza in Roccella Valdemone. For the collection of the Viceroy Conde de Guzman Enrico Olivara he delivered in 1592 to the design for a triumphal arch. A situation created richly decorated by him in 1544 archbishop's throne for the Cathedral of Palermo is lost. His co-workers were the brothers Giuseppe and Spatafora, Fedele Casella and his son Scipione.
