Gießhübl

Gießhübl is a municipality with 2195 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Mödling in Lower Austria. It is located south of the Austrian capital Vienna on the edge of the nature reserve Föhrenberge to 416 m above sea level, making it also the highest altitude wine village of Lower Austria.

Geography

Was Gießhübl used to be a purely agricultural city, today it is primarily a residential community. This was also favored by the location in the immediate vicinity of Vienna and with direct access to the A 21 ( Vienna outer ring road).

History

The town was founded in 1592 from a settlement with farm structures.

In the period 1938-1954 Gießhübl belonged, as 96 more by then Lower Austrian municipalities, for more than 26 districts comprehensive Greater Vienna and was part of the 24th district, Mödling. Only 1954 Gießhübl was again an independent municipality in the province of Lower Austria, which was celebrated in September 2004 with a large 50 - year celebration.

Policy

Mayor of the Municipality is Michaela Vogl ( L.ÖVP ), Vice Mayor Ing Leopold Buchner ( SPÖ Gießhübl active) chief officer Alexander Weber.

Coat of arms

Blazon: "In a divided shield over a towering in the sign black triple mount, front in blue a silver cross, back in gold a green spruce with equal strain". There the municipality was awarded in 1977.

Economy and infrastructure

Gießwände

To the west of the town are located behind the Hans- Nemecek hut some rock barrier which can be availed as rock-climbing and as a training ground. They are called " Gießwände " and are about 15 minutes walk from the terminus of bus routes from Vienna Liesing (Bus 256) and Mödling Station (Bus 262 ) can be achieved.
