Giorgio Massari

Giorgio Massari (* October 13, 1687 in Venice, † December 20, 1766 ) was an architect of the late Baroque period, who worked in Venice, Friuli, Lombardy and Istria.

Life

Relatively little is known about the life and work. His father Stefano is from Treviso and was probably a furniture maker, Giorgio worked as a boy in his workshop. Who introduced him to the architecture is not exactly known. It is believed that he was a student Andrea Tiralis. In the years between 1719 to 1721 he seems to have been employed in the construction of the villa in Pola Barcon. 1734 Paolo Tamagnin dies, his first client, the Massari uses universal heir with the requirement to use a large portion of the proceeds for the restoration of the church of San Giovanni in Bragora. In 1735 he married the widow Tamagnin and moves into their house. 1737 he becomes the " proto " (about Dombaumeister ) of San Marco appointed. On 20 December 1766 he died in his house at Campiello del Piovan and is buried in the church of San Giovanni in Bragora.

Works

Massari is the direct successor of Andrea Palladio and Baldassare Longhena. In the late years he begins classical elements in his buildings to use.
