Giorgio Oberweger

Giorgio Oberweger (born 22 December 1913 in Trieste, † 14 October 1998 ) was an Italian athlete. Oberweger had a competition weight of 82 kg at a height of 1.89 m.

Giorgio Oberweger occupied at the European Athletics Championships 1934 in Turin with 45.38 meters in sixth place in the discus throw. In the 1936 Olympics he won with 49.23 meters bronze behind the Americans Ken Carpenter and Gordon Dunn, with Oberweger lacked only 13 centimeters on silver. 22 centimeters lacked at the European Championships in Paris in 1938, when he won with 49.48 meters silver behind the German Willy Schroeder. In these European Championships, he took up in the 110- meter hurdles, but resigned in the run- off.

In the 1948 Olympics he was next to Adolfo Consolini and Giuseppe Tosi, the third Italian participants in the discus throw. While the other two won gold and silver, Oberweger retired in qualifying. Oberweger was playing these games as a discus thrower, a functionary of the Italian team and as Gehrichter in use. He was later a member of the Council of the World Association of Athletics Federations, the International Association of Athletics Federations, and after his retirement an honorary member.
