Gladstone (Queensland)

Gladstone is a port city in the Australian state of Queensland and is located on the east coast about 540 kilometers north of Brisbane. It is the seat of the same local government area ( LGA) Gladstone Region Council.

The harbor, Port Curtis, was discovered in the early 19th century, the settlement was made, however, until much later. Gladstone was founded in 1863. The upturn came but only in the 60s of the 20th century, when the aluminum industry settled there. Became a great industrial port from the port and, now, oil and chemicals are processed in the city. Approximately 29,000 inhabitants live in Gladstone.

10 km north-west is a large industrial plant, the Yarwun alumina refinery - by Rio Tinto Alcan, in 550 people are employed.
