Glencairn (TTC)

Glencairn is an above-ground subway station in Toronto. It lies on the Yonge- University - Spadina line of the Toronto Subway, at the corner of Allen Road and Glencairn Avenue. The station, which has a central platform, is used daily by an average of 5560 passengers (2009 /10), making it one of the least frequented of the entire network. There is a Umsteigemöghlichkeit to a bus route. The opening of the station took place on 28 January 1978 together with the section between St. George and Wilson.

The predominantly consisting of concrete station is located in the middle of the tire Allen Road, a multi-lane feeder to Highway 401, under the bridge of the crossing Glencairn Avenue. A rise, there is also the further south past the bridge Mount View Avenue. The platform is covered over its entire length by a vaulted glass roof, which can overshadow the natural daylight. The floor and walls are covered with reddish-brown individual tiles. The design of the station comes from the architectural firm Adamson Associates. A painted and Rita Le Tendre skylight named Joy once adorned the station. Due to the strong sunlight it dwindled away and was finally removed after a few years at the request of the artist.
